In 1985 Trinipop becomes manager of the band and served as Jakob Keusen battery temporarily until the arrival of Wölli. Two years later published Never Mind the Hosen - Here's Die Roten Rosen (never mind the pants - here is the red rose) a parody of the Sex Pistols album. Their first live album was Bis zum Ende Bitterem (to the bitter end). In 1988 they released their next studio album Ein Kleines bisschen Horrorschau (a little horror film) based on the movie Clockwork Orange by Kubrick and which opens with Hier kommt Alex one of their biggest hits.
In 1989 after the fall of the Berlin Wall, were there to take part in the spontaneous celebrations that took place in the city and then recorded their seventh álbum Auf dem Dreuzzug ins Glück (on the cross for happiness). In English Learning, Lesson One versioned classics of Anglo-punk collaboration with some of the original performers of the issues. In 1993 their disc Kauf MICH! (buy me!) speaks of consumption, and the extreme right propaganda. That same year published a compilation album with 20 naked women on the cover inspired by one of the albums of Jimi Hendrix.
In 1994 founded their own record label: JKP, Kleine Plattenfirma Jochens (small seal Jochen). Their greatest commercial success was Zehn Kleine Jägermeister (ten small hunters) in 1996, which was part of Opium fürs Volk (Opium for the people). The June 28, 1997, to celebrate their 1000 concerts, one in Düsseldofer Rheinstadion made for 60,000 people where tragically a 16 year old girl died crushed by the crowd. After that the band was about to quit music and for a long time refused to play in places with large numbers of people. From this event born Alles ist eins (All is One).
In 1998 under the pseudonym Die Roten Rosen (red roses) recorded an album of Christmas songs Wir Warten aufs Christkind (hopefully the baby Jesus). Unsterblich (immortal) was released a year later and Wolli left the band due to problems in one arm and was replaced by Vom Ritchie. As enthusiasts of the Fortuna Düsseldorf were its sponsors from 2001 to 2003 when the club suffered serious economic problems. In 2004 their album Zurück zum Glück (Return to Happines) was platinum. They took part at various videogames and have a own version of SingStar with 24 songs .
During a break from the group in 2006, Campino starred as Macheath in an adaptation of The Threepenny Opera of Bertolt Brecht and Vom Ritchie was on tour with Spttin' Vicars and TV Smith. With Bono, Bob Geldof, Fantasstischen Die Vier (Fantastic Four) and Herbert Grönemeyer among others, were involved in the Make Poverty History convert to protest against the G8 summit in Heiligendamm on June 7, 2007.
In 2009 they were chosen as the best live band with the Echo Award and published in Argentina disk Brotherhood - In the beginning was the sound with tracks from In aller Stille and Zurück zum Glück and three new tracks like the version of One, two ultraviolent by the Argentine group Los Violadores.
In general the topics are written by Campino and arrangements are Meurer, Breitkopf and von Hols. They talk about social and political issues in critical or ironic way: xenophobia, racism, religion, psychology, spirit, football...

De mi época en Alemania además de engancharme con Rammstein,
obviamente, lo hice con Die Toten Hosen que literalmente significa “los pantalones
muertos” pero en alemán es una expresión que utilizar para describir lugares
aburridos o en los que nunca sucede nada. La banda punk-rock fue formada en
1982 en Düsseldorf con la unión de formaciones previas: ZK y KFC. Los
componentes originales fueron Trini Trimpop, Andi, Kuddel, Breiti y Walter.
Este último pronto abandonaría la banda por convertirse en testigo de
Jehová. Su primer álbum Opel-Gang (la
banda Opel) fue tan bien recibido que algunos los etiquetaron como “la banda
punk número uno de Alemania”. Su segundo álbum Unter falscher Flagge (bajo una
falsa bandera) también recibió muy buenas críticas y uno de su singer más
conocidos fue Liebesspiele (juego de vida). La gira de este disco tuvo 38
conciertos y en 28 de ellos tuvieron algún tipo de percance: peleas,
cancelaciones y prohibiciones.
En 1985 Trinipop pasa a ser manager de la banda y Jakob
Keusen ocupó el puesto de batería temporalmente hasta la llegada de Wölli. Dos
años más tarde publican Never Mind the Hosen – Here’s Die Roten Rosen (nunca
importa el pantalón – aquí está la rosa roja) una parodia del álbum de los Sex
Pistols. Su primer disco en directo fue Bis zum Bitterem Ende (hasta el amargo
final). En 1988 sale su siguiente álbum de estudio Ein Kleines bisschen
Horrorschau (un poco de película de terror) basado en la película la Naranja
Mecánica de Kubrick y el cual se abre con Hier kommt Alex uno de sus temas más
famosos.
En 1989 tras la caída del muro de Berlín estuvieron allí
para tomar parte en los festejos espontáneos que tuvieron lugar en la ciudad y
después grabaron su séptimo disco Auf dem Kreuzzug ins Glück (en la cruzada
para la felicidad). En Learning English, Lesson One versionan temas clásicos
del punk anglosajón con la colaboración de algunos de los intérpretes originales
de los temas. El disco del 93 Kauf MICH! (cómprame) se habla del consumo, la
extrema derecha y la propaganda. Ese mismo año sacan un disco recopilatorio con
20 mujeres desnudas en la portada inspirado en uno de los discos de Jimi
Hendrix.
En 1994 fundan su propio sello discográfico: JKP, Jochens
Kleine Plattenfirma (el pequeño sello de Jochen). Su mayor éxito comercial fue
Zehn Kleine Jägermeister (diez pequeños cazadores) en 1996, el cual formaba
parte de Opium fürs Volk (Opio para el pueblo). El 28 de junio de 1997, para
celebrar sus 1.000 conciertos, hicieron uno en Düsseldofer Rheinstadion para
60.000 personas donde trágicamente murió una chica de 16 años aplastada por la
multitud. Después de ello la banda estuvo a punto de dejar la música y durante
mucho tiempo se negaron a tocar en lugares con grandes cantidades de gente. Del
suceso nace Alles ist eins (Todo es uno).
En 1998 bajo el seudónimo de Die Roten Rosen (las rosas
rojas) graban un disco de canciones navideñas Wir Warten aufs Christkind
(esperamos al niño Jesús). Unsterblich (inmortal) vio la luz un año después y
Wölli deja la banda por problemas en un brazo siendo sustituido por Vom
Ritchie. Como entusiastas del Fortuna Düsseldorf fueron sus auspiciantes de
2001 a 2003 cuando el club pasaba graves problemas económicos. En 2004 su disco Zurück zum Glück (Regreso a
la felicidad) es platino. A parecen en diversos videojuegos y tienen una
versión de SingStar propia con 24 canciones.
Durante un descanso del grupo en 2006, Campino interpretó el
papel de Macheath en una adaptación de La Ópera de los Tres Centavos de Bertolt
Brecht y Vom Ritchie estuvo de gira con Spttin’ Vicars y T.V. Smith. Junto a
Bono, Bob Geldof, Die Fantasstischen Vier (Los cuatro fantásticos) y Herbert
Grönemeyer entre otros, participan en el convierto Make Poverty History como
protesta contra la cumbre del G8 en Heiligendamm el 7 de junio de 2007.
En 2009 fueron elegidos como la mejor banda en directo con
el premio Echo y publicaron en Argentina el disco La hermandad – En el
principio fue el ruido con temas de In aller Stille y Zurück zum Glück y tres
temas nuevos como la versión de Uno, dos, ultraviolento del grupo argentino
Los Violadores.
En general los temas son escritos por Campino y los arreglos
son de Meurer, Breitkopf y von Holst. Hablan de temas sociales y políticos en
forma crítica o irónica: xenofobia, racismo, religión, psicología, alcohol,
fútbol…
