Sevendust es una banda de Atlanta (EE.UU.) creada en 1992
con el nombre de Tomorrows Pain y posteriormente como Crawlspace bajo cuyo
nombre lanzaron “My Ruin” (single parte de la banda sonora de Mortal Kombat).
El estilo de Sevendust es una mezcla de metal arternativo, heavy metal, nu metal y post-grunge. Están influenciados por la música de Living Colour, Sepultura, Faith No More, Twisted Sister, Anthrax y Ministry.
En 1997 lanzan su primer álbum “Sevendust” con influencias
Soul por el origen afroamerica de Lajon. Fueron singles de este disco: “Black”,
“Too close to Hate” y “Bitch”. Consiguieron un disco de oro por él.
Entre 1997 y 1999 dan más de 400 conciertos entre los que
destacan Ozzfest’98 y Woodstock’99. En 1999 publican su segundo disco “Home”
algo menos agresivo que anterior y alejado del sonido Groove metal con la
colaboración de Chino Moreno (Deftones para “Bender”) y Skin (Skunk Anansie
para “Licking Cream”). Este álbum también fue disco de oro.
En Noviembre de 2001 sale “Animosity” también disco de oro y
con singles de éxito: “Praise” y “Angel’s Son”, ésta última tributo a Lynn
Strait (Snot). En 2002 tuvieron un parón debido a la muerte del hermano menor
de Lajon. En 2003 regresan con
“Seasons” y sus singles: “Driven”, “Enemy”, “Broken Down” y “Face to Face”.
Fue primer álbum en directo fue publicado en 2004:
“Southside Double-Wide: Acoustic Live”. Ese mismo año Clint Lowery deja el
grupo para tocar con su hermano Corey en Dark New Day. El 11 de octubre de 2005
se publica “Next” cuyo single “Ugly” fue utilizado en Saw II. Tras su problemas
económicos publican el 6 de marzo de 2007 “Alpha” con 42.000 copias vendidas en
su primera semana a la venta. Ese mismo año entran en el estudio para grabar “Chapter
VII: Hope & Sorrow” el cual fue publicado el año siguiente.
En 2008 regresa al grupo Lowery y en diciembre van de gira
con Black Stone Cherry. En enero de 2009 la hicieron con Disturbed y dieron
conciertos para las tropas estadounidenses en Iraq y Afghanistan en primavera. “Cold
Day Memory” fue grabado en octubre de 2009 y publicado en abril de 2010 con el
single “Unraveling”. Ese mismo año toman parte en el Carnival of Madness Tour
con Chevelle, Puddle of Mudd, 10 Years y shinedown. En 2011 viajan a Australia
junto a Iron Maiden, Slayer, Sone Sour y Ill Niño.
El álbum “Black Out the Sun” de 2013 trajo con sigo el
single “Decay” para su lanzamiento. Este ha sido su primer álbum en llegar al
número 1 en el Billboard en la primera semana de su lanzamiento. El año
siguiente grabaron un disco en acústico: “Time Travelers & Bonfires” el
cual fue publicado en abril y cuyo primer single fue “Black”.
