Enrique Bunbury

Enrique Ortiz de Landázuri Izardui , alias Enrique Bunbury. He adopted his stage name from a character in "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde.He was the vocalist of Heroes del Silencio and began his solo career in 1997. In the list of the 250 best albums of Latin American rock :

He began his career at age 12 when his first electric guitar with 5,000 pesetas (5 dollars) that was saved to buy it. In 1980 he played in a group called Apocalipsis at the school. Between 1981 and 1983 he played drums and was the Singer of Rebel Waltz and played bass on Proceso Entrópico (Entropic process). Also he was the vocalist of group Zumo de vidrio (Glass Juice), the band which became into Héroes del silencio.

The transition between Heroes and Bunbury was complicated. His first album was positively received by critics, but rejected by the public who was very faithful to Heroes of silence and didn't understand the artist's change. In the record presentatioon, Enrique was mocked and the publicjust was shouting: "heroes, hereos". The artist even considered abandoning the music: "I need an audience to make me grow as a musician, not one who make me to play 'Entre dos Tierras' and as I did by Héroes del silencio".

With his second album, with hints of cabaret and Mediterranean sounds, gradually the public was accepting the change. According to Enrique: "I set out to make the record that I need and I need Pequeño. I didn't care if people don't understand what I wanted to do. I wanted do it an I have to abandone the music, I'll do it".

With the third, where there are song with over 150 sound tracks, came the full acceptance. The álbum went gold disc upon its release, in concert tickets was sold out and long lines formed to get an autograph from Bunbury.

He is currently one of the most important Latin American art scene.

Comenzó su carrera  a los 12 años cuando se compró su primera guitarra eléctrica con 5.000 pesetas (30 euros) que tenía ahorradas. En 1980 tocaba en un grupo del colegio llamado Apocalipsis. Entre 1981 y 1983 tocó la batería y fue cantante de Rebel Waltz y tocó el bajo en Proceso Entrópico. Después fue el vocalista de Zumo de Vidrio grupo que pasaría a ser Héroes del silencio.

El paso de Héroes a Bunbury fue complicado. Su primer disco fue recibido positivamente por la crítica pero rechazado por el público quien era muy fiel a Héroes del silencio y no entendió el giro de 180 del artista. En la presentación del disco, Enrique fue vituperado y el público no dejaba de gritar: "héroes, héreos". El artista llegó incluso a plantearse el abandonar la música: "Necesito un público que me haga crecer como músico, no que me haga tocar toda la vida Entre dos tierras y encima como lo hacía con Héroes".

Con su segundo álbum, con toques de cabaret y sonidos mediterráneos, llegó paulatinamente la aceptación del público. Según Enrique: "Me propuse hacer el disco que me saliera, y me salió Pequeño. Me daba igual si la gente no lo entendía. Quería hacerlo y si me tenía que retirar, pues me retiraba. Así me lo planteé".

Con el tercero, donde hay canciones con más de 150 pistas de sonido, llegó la aceptación total del público. Fue disco de oro en su lanzamiento, en los conciertos se agotaban las entradas y se formaban largas colas para conseguir un autógrafo de Bunbury.

Actualmente es uno de los artísticas más importantes del panorama latinoamericano.
