His style is defined as punk rock, post -hardcore, garage rock or emo. Their influences have been MC5, Teenage Fanclub, Morrissey, Queen, Black Flag and Jawbraker. According to its members their songs try convey the message of not being afraid to live ("Famous Last Words" or "Save yourself, I'll hold them back"). Also talk about personal problems and love.
In 2001, Gerald would work as a cartoonist when he was witnessed of the September 11th attacks, a fact that encouraged him to do something meaningful with his life. So he suggested to his high school classmate, Matt Pelissier, create a group. The first song was "Skylines and Turnstiles" written by Way while living in New York and inspired by the 11S. Later joined Ray and Mikey. Mikey was who suggested the group name inspired by the book "Ecstasy: three tales of chemical romance" by Irvine Welsh.
In 2004, "Three cheers for sweet revenge" album that would have wide acceptance and which was dedicated to the grandmother of Gerard and Michael (Elena Lee Rush) who died two weeks before thealbum was published. She was who supported the brothers and taught them singing, acting and drawing. The most popular songs from this album: "Helena" (most requested video on MTV Latin America in 2005), "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"and "The ghost of you".
His third album also had great success: "The Black Parade" which came to say it was their alter ego and it's was the album for what they wanted to be remembered. Their sound is more classic and similar to the 70's style. Rolling Stone awarded the post of top 20 Top 50 of 2006 and "Welcome to the Black Parade" was included in the list of The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time".

A uno de mis personajes le encanta "My Chemical Romance" (hola Onixe! Va x ti). La banda fue creada en 2001 en Nueva Jersey. Estaba formada por Gerad Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro y Frank Iero (temporalmente: Matt Pelissier and Bob Bryar). . Se separaron en marzo del presente año (¿por qué? ¿por qué?).

En 2001, Gerald iba a trabajar como dibujante de cómics cuando fue testigo de los atentados del 11S, hecho que le animó a hacer algo significante con su vida. Entonces le sugiere a su compañero de secundaria, Matt Pelissier, crear un grupo. Su primer tema fue "Skylines and turnstiles", escrito por Way mientras vivía en Nueva York e inspirado en el 11S. Fue ella quien apoyó a los hermanos y les enseños a cantar, actuar y dibujar. Las canciones más conocidas de este álbum: "Helena" (vídeo más solicita en MTV Latinoamérica en 2005), "I'm not okay (I promese)" y "The ghost of you".
También tuvo gran éxito su tercer disco "The Black Parade" del que llegaron a decir que era su áter ego y el disco por el que querían ser recordados. Su sonido es más clásico y propio de los 70. La revista Rolling Stone le otorgó el 20 puesto del top 50 de mejores álbumes de 2006 y "Welcome to the Black Parade" se incluyó en la lista de "Las 100 más grandes canciones de guitarra de todos los tiempos".
