Hoy ha fallecido el legendario Lou Reed cofundador de The Velvet Underground junto a John Cale en 1964. En solitario triunfó con álbumnes como "Transformer", "Lou Reed" o "Metal Machine Music".

The Velvet Underground fue fundada en 1964 en Nueva York. Fue una de las primeras bandas en incluir influencia avat-garde y el uso del noise dentro del rock (ruido de guitarras). La historia de la banda se inicia cuando Reed y Cale se conocen y fundan The Primitives para promocionar el single de Reed "The Ostrich". Posteriormente se les unión Sterling Morrison y Angus McLise formando The warlocks que más tarde pasarían a ser The Falling Spikes.

The Velvet Underground es el título de un libro sobre sadomasoquismo de Michael Leigh que un amigo de la banda, Jim Tucker, encontró tirado en la calle. MacLise fue reemplazado por Maureen Tucker quien tocaba la batería de pie y con mazos en lugar de baquetas.

Su música está llega de ruido y distorsiones y la las letras tras de tópicos inuales para su época como el masoquismo, travestismo y la adicción a la heroina, Andy Warhol fue mánager del grupo y fue él quien sugirió que la modelo Nico debía cantar en la banda pasando a ser The Velvet Underground & Nico. Reed acabó despidiendo a Warhol y Nico.

The Velvet Underground was founded in 1964 in New York. It was one of the first bands to include avat-garde influence and the use of noise (guitar noise). The band's history begins when Reed and Cale are known and founded The Primitives for promoting the Reed' single "The Ostrich". With Sterling Morrison and Angus McLise, they created The Warlocks who later became The Falling Spikes.

 

 

The Velvet Underground is the title of a book about sadomasochism by Michael Leigh that a friend of the band, Jim Tucker, found it lying in the street. MacLise was replaced by Maureen Tucker who played drums standing with mallets instead of drumsticks.

 

His music is coming from noise and distortions and his letters about topics, very inuales for its time, as masochism, transvestism and heroin addiction, Andy Warhol was manager of the group and it was he who suggested that the model Nico was singer, so their name changed to The Velvet Underground & Nico. At the end Reed dismissed Warhol and Nico.
